RDS for MySQL, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL

Amazon RDS supports MySQL, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL, three of the most popular open source relational databases that have become the industry standard for deploying enterprise applications on open source databases. All of the engines support the ability to deliver Multi-AZ, highly available, master-slave synchronous copies of databases in one region and the capability to deploy multiple read replicas in the same region or across other regions. The RDS service supports the following versions of the open source databases:

  • Drop-in compatible engines for MySQL Community Edition versions 5.5, 5.6, 5.7, and 8.0
  • Drop-in compatible engines for MariaDB Server versions 10.0, 10.1, 10.2, and 10.3
  • Any version of PostgreSQL with version 9.3.5 and later supporting Multi-AZ and read replicas

To protect data at rest, the databases support instance volume encryption and have the ability to use SSL to protect data in transit.
