RDS also supports Oracle (version 11g and newer) and Microsoft SQL (2008 and newer), two industry standard licensed relational database products that are commonly used in enterprise applications. The ability to consume these database types from the cloud gives us the flexibility of choosing the RDS option when migrating to the cloud for these two database types.

To protect data at rest and in transit, Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) is supported on both of these instances. With TDE, the encryption is delivered in a transparent manner that does not require any management or configuration overhead on the client side. Both of these database types require a license and are able to be consumed as a service or as a bring-your-own-license model.
