On top of metrics, CloudWatch also has the ability to accept logs from our operating system or our application. The CloudWatch Logs component stores the logs into the same data store as the metrics but maintains the logs indefinitely. We can also set the retention period or we can create a procedure for shipping logs to the S3 service for long-term retention and life-cycling into archive. We are able to deliver logs to CloudWatch Logs via the CloudWatch agent that can be installed on any EC2 instance or on-premises server with a compatible operating system.
