Configuring application version life cycle settings

Elastic Beanstalk allows us to store up to 100 versions of an application. This might seem like a lot, but with today's fast-paced development that perhaps deploys and tests multiple versions of an application every day, this limit can be reached fairly quickly. This limit is set on a per-application basis, so each application's life cycle policy needs to be managed separately. Follow these steps to get started:

  1. To enable application life cycling, we can simply navigate to our Application versions section and click the Settings button:

In the Application version lifecycle settings dialogue, we can enable the policy and then select whether we want to limit the application version to a certain number of versions or a certain age in days. Limiting to a number of versions is appropriate for an application with a fast development cycle, whereas the age limit is useful when we have an SLA that defines the age we are required to maintain. After creating the policy, we click on the Save button to enable the life cycle policy on the application versions:
