Microsoft Office OneNote is available as a standalone product. To install OneNote on your computer, use the following steps.
1. | Close all open programs on your computer. Open programs can sometimes lock certain files and prevent them from updating properly. | ||

3. | Enter your 25 character product key for OneNote. You can find the product key on the back of OneNote's CD case or on the Certificate of Authenticity. When you've entered the product key, click Next to display Figure C.1. Figure C.1. Enter your name, initials, and organization carefully; you'll see them each time you launch OneNote. | ||
4. | Enter your full name, your initials, and the name of your organization. Your name and organization are displayed on the splash screen each time you launch the application. Click Next.

5. | You must accept the End-User License Agreement (EULA) before installation can proceed. Check the box marked I accept the terms in the License Agreement and click Next to display Figure C.2. 7. | A component with a dark gray icon, such as the Office Shared Features icon in Figure C.3, contains some components selected for installation and other components not selected for installation. To view subcomponents, click the plus sign next to the component name. To install a component, click the small down arrow next to the name of the component and select either Run from My Computer (installs the selected component only) or Run all from My Computer (installs the selected component and all subcomponents). You can prevent a component's installation by selecting Not Available. Click Next when you're done customizing your installation. | ||
8. | On the next screen all you'll see is merely a confirmation screen. To install OneNote, click Install. You'll see an installation screen with a progress bar. This screen might display for several minutes while OneNote 2003 is installed. | ||
9. | When the installation completes, a confirmation screen is displayed. You can select the check box to Check the Web for updates and additional downloads. While not required, this is often a good idea in case service packs or patches have been released for OneNote. When you're done, click Finish. |
You're now ready to begin using OneNote 2003!
When installing OneNote, you don't need to install the optional components such as Handwriting Fonts, Tours, or some Help components. You can also leave out some of the Office Shared Features such as Proofing Tools. |
