Who am I?

I have been an artist for the past 12 years and am mostly self-taught. I started out painting abstract art, inspired by the teachings of German-American painter Hans Hofmann (1880-1966). Soon, I decided to paint more realistic subjects, but the bold brushstrokes from my abstract days carried over into my paintings. I enjoy this adventurous style of painting, as it shows off my personality and unique style.

If you are new to painting, the techniques in this book are a perfect way to get started. If you are experienced with acrylic painting, try experimenting with thick brushstrokes as a way to loosen up your style.

Why paint with acrylic paint?

Acrylic paint is water-soluble, making it a great choice for beginners and those intimidated by the solvents and precautions necessary when working with oil paint. Modern acrylic paints come in all of the traditional colors, as well as a variety of bright, modern colors. Acrylic paint also dries quickly, allowing beginning and experienced painters alike to finish a project that can be displayed the very same day.

Why paint with bold brushstrokes?

Painting with bold brushstrokes makes painting fun and amazingly quick. You won’t spend days waiting for layers of paint to dry or tediously working an area with a fine-tipped paintbrush. Instead, you can work fast and spontaneously.

Painting should be relaxing and fun! With thick, confident brushstrokes, you can complete a painting in less than an hour or two and be proud of the piece you’ve accomplished.

So, let’s get started!
