System Center Operations Manager management pack

System Center Operations Manager (SCOM), is a part from System Center Operations Management Suite (OMS), and works with so called management packs, that are more or less an XML file with all monitoring details regarding the specific product.

It can be downloaded from, https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/management-pack-for-microsoft-azure-stack-now-available/.

The prerequisites for the installation are:

  • System Center Operations Manager 2012 R2 or 2016
  • .NET Framework 4.5 installed on all SCOM management servers

You just need to import them to your SCOM management group and connect it to the Azure Stack, there is no auto discovery available. To enable monitoring, you will need to add the Azure Stack deployment to your SCOM environment. This is a 1:n connectivity which means that one SCOM management group can monitor multiple Azure Stack environments:

The connection is being done with a read-only administrative account in Azure Stack and registering the resource manager API Endpoint URL. The Health Dashboard allows you to view and drill into the health of multiple deployments of the Azure Stack. To successfully connect to the Azure Stack, you will need an administrative account of the appropriate Azure Stack environment:

The management pack introduces a comprehensive set of views. You can find them in the Microsoft Azure Stack folder:

In general, you will recognize that the Azure Stack management pack and the Azure one are quite similar as the technology source for both is quite comparable (it's the cloud inspired infrastructure).
