Foreground Elements

When photographing landscapes, many photographers reach for a wide-angle lens. The problem with wide-angle lenses is that they tend to shrink the perceived distance and depth of an image. Elements look close together, and depth is lost.

To solve this problem, add a foreground element to your composition (Figures 8.15 and 8.16). This will give your image greater depth.
