In order to make sure you are ready to take on a photo adventure, your shooting assignments for Chapter 1 cover the Top Ten list. Although we don’t cover the shooting modes until Chapter 3, set your camera to P (Program mode) or M (Manual mode). This will open up all the features you will be experimenting with in this chapter’s challenges.
Charge your battery to 100%. This is a good exercise in patience. Next, choose Raw or JPEG, set your ISO, and select an AF setting.
Most people leave their white balance setting on Auto. Get out there and get creative. Pay close attention to the color casts that result from selecting a specific white balance. To get you started, try changing your white balance to Cloudy when shooting a sunset, and watch as specific colors begin to pop.
Enable the electronic-level setting, and take a photo with a balanced horizon.
Enable the GPS setting on your camera and take a photo outside. Then review the image on the back of your camera to make sure the GPS coordinates were in fact embedded in the image. (Hint: Press the Info button while reviewing your image to find the logged GPS info.)
Enable the Wi-Fi setting on your camera, and make sure you have downloaded the EOS Remote app on your smartphone. Then use your phone to take a photo with your 6D.
