The current stable version of VSM at the time of writing this book is 2.0. This is the same version that we demonstrated in this chapter. Due to its easy-to-use, powerful, and feature-rich interface, VSM is getting quite popular in the Ceph community. The next release of VSM would be 2.1, which comes with several bug fixes and new features. Some of them are as follows:
The new features in VSM 2.1 are
Reporting the server name that is running the Monitor daemon
Identifying the physical location of a failed disk
Removing an unused disk path list during the addition of a new OSD
Displaying the disk's logical path instead of physical, while adding a new OSD
Attaching and managing the existing Ceph cluster
Monitoring the status page improvements
Displaying SMART information for storage devices
The bug fixes that are required in VSM 2.1
The Monitors button needs to be removed in Manage Servers and it should hang when a Monitor node too has MDS daemon
The VSM version and uptime should be displayed even if no cluster is created
It accesses other options of VSM dashboard while cluster creation is ongoing.
The Number of PG in each OSD is too large warning is displayed after upgrading Ceph cluster version to Ceph Hammer.
The password for OpenStack access is shown in plain text
When it's installed with dependent packages pre-prepared, the installer will stop running and display complaints
If a server is down, it is not reflected in VSM
This is a very limited list of new features and bug fixes; for the latest information on VSM Roadmaps, please visit the Virtual Storage Manager project at https://01.org/jira/browse/VSM.
