Placing an Application in the Cloud

As shown in FIGURE 18-1, a cloud-based solution must reside on a server that resides in the cloud, meaning, a server connected to the Internet.

An illustration shows web server in a larger cloud consisting of cloud solution.

FIGURE 18-1 For users to access a cloud solution, the application must reside on a server connected to the Internet.

Using a web browser, users, as shown in FIGURE 18-2, access the cloud solution, just as they would any website.

An illustration shows a user interacting with cloud solution in a cloud using a web browser.

FIGURE 18-2 Users use a web browser to interact with the cloud solution.

When developers create the program code for their solutions, they normally create and edit the program’s source code, the file that contains the program’s instructions, on their own computer and then use an FTP, the File Transfer Protocol, application to upload the code to the cloud server, as shown in FIGURE 18-3, so users can access the solution.

An illustration shows a user using a web browser to send and retrieve source code from a cloud server in a cloud using F T P.

FIGURE 18-3 Programmers normally develop code on their own computers and then use FTP to upload their programs to a cloud-based server.

Developers can create cloud applications using a wide range of programming languages, such as HTML, Python, PHP, and C#.
