Florida has some of the most exciting teams in the US, and family-friendly venues make it fun for all. Football is huge, with top teams such as the Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Miami Heat and Orlando Magic are in the top basketball league, and the Miami Marlins and Tampa Bay Rays are the baseball teams. Ice Hockey is popular, too, with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers. Motor sports include February’s Daytona 500 endurance race at the Daytona track.
Florida’s summer afternoon rains are the perfect time to explore kid-friendly indoor attractions. Miami’s Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science is home to the Gulfstream Aquarium and a spectacular planetarium. The Orlando Science Center has hands-on exhibits, animal encounters, and IMAX films. In Orlando, there are some great family-friendly attractions on International Drive, and lots of shops to explore at Disney Springs®.
Road trips are a great way to explore Florida, and with quirky roadside attractions along many routes there are lots of great places to stretch your legs while enjoying some family fun. Don’t miss a stop at the fantastical Weeki Wachee Springs State Park if you’re passing by.
The most popular outdoor options are the state’s major theme parks, including multiple lands to explore at Walt Disney World® Resort and LEGOLAND®, plus their water parks. For local highlights, enjoy live entertainment at Pier 60 at Clearwater Beach.
