EXPLORING CANCÚN AND THE YUCATÁN

This diverse region has a fabulous range of attractions, and deciding where to visit and what to do can be a challenge. However long your stay, you’ll want to make the most of your time, and these two sightseeing itineraries will help you get the very best out of your visit to Cancún and the Yucatán.

Two Days in Cancún and the Yucatán


Day 1

Morning

Start the day on the beach in Cancún, before paying a visit to the spectacular Museo Subacuático de Arte or the Museo Maya. Afterwards grab a seafood lunch at La Habichuela.

Afternoon

Head down the coast to Playa del Carmen for a stroll down Quinta Avenida, followed by a visit to the Xcaret eco-park or a lounge at a beach club such as Mamita’s. Or head further south to Tulum, where you can explore the Mayan sites before having dinner at Hartwood.

Day 2

Morning

Set off early for Chichén Itzá, where you can explore the Castillo de Kukulcán, the Great Ball Court and the Temple of the Warriors.

Afternoon

Drive to Mérida and lunch at El Marlin Azul. Spend the the afternoon in the historic center, before taking advantage of the city’s free evening entertainment.


Four Days in Cancún and the Yucatán


Day 1

Morning

Start in Cancún – head to the beach, do some shopping, look round the Museo Maya, or visit the Museo Subacuático de Arte.

Afternoon

After lunch take the ferry over to Isla Mujeres or fly down to Cozumel – both islands are excellent for scuba diving.

Day 2

Morning

Return by ferry to the mainland, then head south along the coast to Playa del Carmen.

Afternoon

After lunch, visit the Xcaret eco-park, before starting your night out at Playa’s Diablito Cha Cha Cha. Alternatively, continue further south to Tulum where you can visit the Mayan sites. After lunch, head to the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve. Take a guided tour of its highlights before making your way back to Tulum.

Day 3

Morning

Start early for the two-hour drive from either Playa or Tulum to Chichén Itzá. Have lunch in Piste at Las Mestizas.

Afternoon

Head west to Mérida, calling in on the way at the craft workshops of Izamal. Spend the rest of the day exploring Mérida’s historic center, before dinner at La Chaya Maya.

Day 4

Morning

Set off for the evocative Mayan sites of Uxmal before getting lunch at Hacienda Uxmal, set just opposite the sites.

Afternoon

Head to Campeche where you can explore the walled old town or stroll along the Malecón at sunset. End your day with dinner at La Pigua.
