1. Chor Bazaar

Dating back over 150 years, and notorious as the market where all stolen goods wind up, Chor Bazaar has numerous shops selling second-hand and vintage paraphernalia. From rare antiques, furniture and bronze statues to old records, vibrant Bollywood posters and electronics, the endless list of items available here, all at throwaway prices, is unceasingly fascinating.

2. Hill Road

A perfect place to find trendy clothes, antique jewellery and a wide range of shoes, Hill Road is one of the most famous shopping streets in the city. It is lined with several street vendors, large-scale retail stores and eateries.

3. Linking Road

The retail stores and roadside vendors located on this street promise a variety of fashion accessories, clothes, footwear and bags – all at suprisingly low prices! This is a good spot to catch a refreshing break or to have a hot cup of tea. There are plenty of spas and restaurants peppered around the area as well.

4. Colaba Causeway

Perpetually bustling with tourists, this shopping lane (see Colaba Causeway) is lined with glamorous boutiques and street stalls. Visitors can find a variety of shoes, bags, jewellery, scarves, clothes, accessories, books and much more. Stop for a bite or a drink at the hugely popular Leopold Cafe & Bar or Cafe Mondegar.

5. Zaveri Bazaar

Dotted with thousands of small and big shops, this is India’s foremost jewellery market. It is known for precious stones, uncut jewellery, as well as a mix of traditional and contemporary gold and diamond jewellery.

6. Mangaldas Bazaar and Mulji Jetha Market

These are must-visit places for buying fabrics and dress materials. With both wholesale and retail outlets, the markets have many options to choose from – silk, brocade, velvet, cotton as well as lace.

7. Crawford Market

Arguably the largest wholesale market in the city, this is a favourite among locals. It was built in the days of the British Raj, and is well known for selling fresh fruits, vegetables, homemade chocolates and spices at extremely low prices. It also houses a pet section with aquarium fish and birds.

8. Lamington Road Market

A perfect destination catering to all electronic needs, this market houses many wholesale and retail stores that sell gadgets, computers, laptops and accessories at lower prices.

9. Fashion Street

This street, lined with over 150 stalls, is one of the biggest shopping hubs in the city. It is famous for its western clothes and accessories, and also offers designer brands at reduced prices. Not to miss is its wide range of electronics.

10. Kala Ghoda Pavement Gallery

M G Road, Fort Area • Open 11am–7pm daily

Just outside Jehangir Art Gallery, this pavement is where the works of local artists are exhibited and sold. A good place to buy contemporary paintings of Hindu gods, as well as beautifully painted leaves and tickets, and even beaded jewellery. You can also get lovely portraits and caricatures made here.
