Fascinating insights into all aspects of the universe are featured at the award-winning Science World at TELUS World of Science. Explorations begin with the smallest insect and progress to the farthest corners of the galaxy. A legacy of Expo ‘86, the building opened as a science center in 1989. Seven galleries feature hundreds of delightfully interactive, hands-on displays and exhibits based on different themes, as well as entertaining live science demonstrations.

  • White Spot, a popular BC chain known for its burgers slathered with Triple O (triple oozy) sauce, is on the Science World site. A concession on Level 2 offers juices and ice-cream bars.
  • Paid parking in the small lot is at a premium. Try taking the SkyTrain to Main Street Station, then walking to Science World.
  • Meet the backyard chickens in the fascinating Ken Spencer Science Park located right outside the main center. A diverse range of crops and plants are grown in raised beds here, and visitors can learn a lot about environmental sustainability and recycling through interactive presentations. This part of Science World is open from March to October.

1. Feature Gallery

The best traveling exhibitions are showcased here. Always fresh and exciting, the content of the gallery is changed every few months. Consistently offering interactive opportunities for all ages to explore science topics including light, sound, engineering, and more, it’s sure to spark your curiosity.

2. Wonder Gallery

Designed for kids up to 5 years old, this area has a baby gym, water tables meant for splashing around, a climbing tower, a building blocks zone, and a bus laboratory for fun experiments.

3. Geodesic Dome

Science World’s 155-ft- (47-m-) tall geodesic dome is dubbed “the golf ball” by locals. The design is based on the prototype structure made famous by US inventor and architect R. Buckminster Fuller. Mirror-like exterior panels, 766 in all, reflect the sunlight, while 391 exterior lights sparkle at night.

4. Our World Gallery

This exhibit reveals how the choices we make about waste disposal, food production, and transportation affect our home communities.

5. Science Theatre

High-definition films on science, nature, and outer space are screened here. There are cartoons for toddlers as well as movies for the whole family.

6. Search: Sara Stern Gallery

Explore natural history with live critters and creepy-crawlies, a replica of a beaver home, a real bee colony, and a life-size Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton cast at this interactive gallery.

7. Eureka! Gallery

Eureka! Gallery explores universal themes such as water, air, motion and invention. Children and adults alike are invited to make their own discoveries in a lifelike science laboratory environment. You can even use an infrared camera to discover the hot spots on your body.

8. Peter Brown Family Centre Stage

Scientific principles and phenomena are explored in five daily shows. Presenters mix balloons and electricity, bubbles and fire to dazzle and captivate.

9. BodyWorks Gallery

This gallery encourages positive curiosity regarding the human body. Questions about how human beings hear, smell, and move are answered in this fun-filled interactive space.

10. OMNIMAX® Theatre

The five-story screen, one of the largest in the world, envelops viewers with thrilling films. The 400-seat theater, located inside the dome, projects images nine times larger than a conventional movie house onto a screen that is 88 ft (27 m) in diameter.
