Managing guest access settings in SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business

Access to the files that are shared in the team is governed by the security settings that have been configured in SharePoint Online (for files shared in Teams) and OneDrive for Business (for files shared in peer-to-peer chat). Chapter 5Planning and Configuring Guest Access, contains detailed information on managing external sharing and guest access for SharePoint Online, while Chapter 11Managing Sharing and Security, contains information on managing external sharing and guest access for OneDrive for Business.

Microsoft recommends the following configuration for organizations that will be sharing content externally through Teams:

  1. Navigate to the SharePoint Admin Center (https://admin.microsoft.com) | Admin Centers | SharePoint.
  2. Select Sharing.
  3. Adjust the sliders under External sharing to either Existing guests, New and existing guests, or Anyone:
