IN THIS APPENDIX

The WebLogic application server from BEA Systems continues to lead the market in the commercial application server arena. Although WebLogic jockeys back and forth with IBM's WebSphere, it is a good example of an application server that supports the EJB 2.0 specification.

One element of the WebLogic environment that is crucial for using it successfully is the console (see Figure E-1). The tree view on the left-hand side of the screen shows the various areas that the developer can both monitor and adjust. Figures E-2 through E-4 explore a few.

Note

WebLogic is a world-class application server, but it has stiff competition from IBM's WebSphere. One area in which WebLogic excels is its support of the various WebLogic newsgroups on the Internet. Usually you have to wait no more than a day or so for excellent help. You can always call in for support, but the newsgroups are very useful.
