In old England, it was a Sheepdog’s job to guide sheep and cattle to market. The dogs’ tails were docked, or “bobbed,” to prove they were employed. (This way, the owner didn’t have to pay a tax.) Sheepdogs are still nicknamed “Bobtails” today!
