Part II: Using and Adapting Domain Storytelling for Different Purposes

Part II of this book deals with the different problems and purposes Domain Storytelling can be used for. We will start by presenting a second, more comprehensive case study, and we will use that to discuss common problems and purposes, each in a separate chapter.

Even though we use the same case study in all the following chapters, you do not have to read them in order. Just start with Chapter 8 to learn about the case study and then pick the chapters that you are interested in.

Since Domain Storytelling is not bound to any particular approach to software development, we have tried to write the following chapters so that they work with all development methods. However, you will come across some terms that are well established in the Domain-Driven Design, software architecture, and agile communities.

In some situations, we have found it useful to combine Domain Storytelling with other modeling approaches. Therefore, we will give you some recommendations on how to combine methods to better achieve your goals.

That said, some prior knowledge of certain topics and methods will help you to get the most out of a purpose chapter. If prior knowledge is recommended, we list it at the start of a chapter, but don’t worry if you do not tick off all the items. You should still be able to understand our ideas.
