About the Author

Christie John Geankoplis is Professor of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Minnesota. He received his B.S. at the University of Minnesota and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. He has been teaching and doing research for over 40 years.

His research interests are in mass transfer, biochemical engineering, and separation processes and he has published extensively in these fields. Professor Geankoplis has also published a textbook entitled Mass Transport Phenomena. He is the author of four editions of Transport Processes and Separation Process Principles.

Professor Geankoplis was employed as a chemical engineer in the process industry for several years. He has served as a consultant for many years for General Mills Chemicals, Inc. He has consulted with many varied industries in the areas of ore extraction, biochemical processes, nuclear reactors, distillation, extraction, absorption, adhesives, fermentation, mass transfer, and emulsions.

He is a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He also is a Licensed Professional Engineer in Ohio and Pennsylvania. His interests are travel, reading ancient and medieval history, and playing tennis.
