Web Services are a bit different from other applications you have developed in the past. If you have spent a lot of time developing networked applications, you will find that it is a lot easier to look at and debug the messages going across the wire. On the other hand, if all you have ever written is desktop applications, you will have to get used to a few new skills. Don't worry; you still have the world of breakpoints and the ability to inspect the values of the variables available to you.

In this chapter, we will look at how to debug a Web Service. The following items will be covered:

• Viewing SOAP requests and the returned response

• Debugging a Web Service at the server

• Remote debugging of a Web Service

• Debugging Web Services under load

• Items to include in your test plan

That last item might be a bit of a shocker. When you deploy a Web Service, there is a set of common things that you will want to test for to make sure that your Web Service will be stable and accessible.
