Joomla 1.6 and later introduces new options features in each of the Joomla managers. They allow you to configure functions and customize your content display with increased control over display and layouts.

Because it is not possible to cover every situation in a single book, we have compiled a complete list of layout options organized by manager: user, content, components, and menu items. Use this appendix as a quick reference to quickly locate specific layout and functional options.

User Manager Options

User options help control user interaction on the front end of your site, such as account creation, logging in, and emailing site users. To access the User Manager options, choose Users > User Manager, and then on the toolbar click the Options button.

Article (Content) Manager Global Options

Global content options are set once and inherited by your content and should be set according to how you want the majority of your content to display. You can then override these settings at the individual article and/or category level using the menu item layout settings. To access the Article Manager options, choose Content > Article Manager, and on the toolbar click Options.

Component Managers

Each component has its own option settings. Unlike the content options, these settings help configure the way a component functions on the site.

Menu Item Options

Menu item options are specific to the type of menu item you are using. Each menu item type has its own options. For example, a Featured Articles menu item would not have Categories options and a Category Blog menu item would not have List layout options. Regardless of the menu item you are using, every type of layout option is listed in the following tables.

The options tables are listed in the order in which they generally appear in the menu item details screen. Any menu item option set to Use Global or left blank will use the global (default) options set in the Content and Component Managers. Any menu item layout option set in menu item details will override the global content and component options.
