Center anchor point in layer content

In After Effects 12.1 and later, you can move the anchor point to the center of the layer content: Choose Layer > Transform > Center Anchor Point In Layer Content.

Changes in the behavior of new layers

Note

In After Effects 12.1 and later, a new layer is placed directly above the currently selected layer in the Timeline panel; if no layer is selected, the layer appears at the top of the stack. In previous versions of After Effects, new layers always appeared at the top of the stack. The following text replaces the first step in the “Adding a solid-color layer” section, which is on page 141 in the printed book.

1. Make sure the CarRide Timeline panel is open, and that no layers are selected.

Detail-Preserving Upscale effect

Upscaling without sacrificing detail

In the past, scaling an image from SD to HD, or from HD to 4K or Ultra HD (four times the pixel resolution of HD), meant compromising quality. However, After Effects 12.1 introduced a new Detail-Preserving Upscale effect, which retains clarity in the image and reduces artifacts and noise.

To upscale an image using the effect:

1. Change the composition settings for the image to the target resolution (e.g., HD or 4K).

2. Apply the Detail-Preserving Upscale effect to the image.

3. Change the Scale value in the Effect Controls panel to the desired size.
