Note
In After Effects 12.1 and later, a new layer is placed directly above the currently selected layer in the Timeline panel; if no layer is selected, the layer appears at the top of the stack. In previous versions of After Effects, new layers always appeared at the top of the stack. The following text replaces the introduction and first step in the “Creating and formatting point text” section, which is on page 62 of the printed book. Return to the original text at step 2.
When you enter point text, each line of text is independent – the length of a line increases or decreases as you edit the text, but it doesn’t wrap to the next line. The text you enter appears in a new text layer. The small line through the I-beam marks the position of the text baseline.
1. Deselect all layers. Then, in the Tools panel, select the Horizontal Text tool (T).
