Once upon a time, etiquette was considered very important and children were expected to know how to behave in a variety of situations. In 2000, American Corrine Gregory thought it was time to revive that idea and founded the company The Polite Child. The company offers a programme called SocialSmarts, dedicated to ‘developing excellent social skills in children of all ages – from toddlers to teens’.

The programme is offered via public and private schools, as private classes and by authorised providers across the country. The claimed benefits are giving young people strong self-esteem and confidence and the ability to handle a myriad of social interactions and situations.

With an increasing problem with bullying, violence in schools and children seemingly out of control, the company may find even greater demand for its services.
