ROMANTIC SPOTS
1. Villa Cimbrone, Ravello
Declared by American writer Gore Vidal to be one of the most beautiful places on earth, this clifftop, 12th-century villa (see Villa Cimbrone, Ravello) is famous for its terraced, maze-like gardens. The highlight is the Terrace of Infinity, which offers breathtaking views over the dramatic coastline and the Mediterranean.

2. Villa La Floridiana, Naples

Lucia Migliaccio, Duchess of Floridia, once called this sumptuous place home – a love token from her husband, Ferdinand I, whose morganatic wife she became soon after the death of his first wife, Maria Carolina of Austria. Not only is the story romantic but the situation itself affords some of the finest views of the city and the bay. The gardens are an excellent place for a peaceful stroll, and the main building now houses a museum filled with a number of delightful treasures (see Villa La Floridiana, Naples).
3. Ristorante Da Adolfo, Positano

Hidden away in a tiny cove just east of Positano is the tranquil Laurito beach. Since 1966, this beachside restaurant has been serving freshly caught fish, mozzarella grilled on lemon leaves, and locally made wine with fresh peaches. The restaurant offers free boat service for clients from Positano’s main pier and the ride is five minutes long. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available to rent, so arrive early for a romantic day at the beach.
4. Le Sirenuse, Positano
In the heart of Positano, Le Sirenuse has earned its reputation as one of the most romantic hotels on the Amalfi Coast. Even if you’re not a guest, you can enjoy an unforgettable meal with a view at the incredibly elegant La Sponda restaurant.

5. Marechiaro
This fishing village (see Marechiaro) between the tip of Capo di Posillipo and Punta del Cavallo is famous with locals for its romantic atmosphere. The vista from here is said to be so gorgeous that even the fish come here to woo their sweethearts by the moonlight. There are many excellent restaurants around the prime viewing spot, all specializing in fish.

This secluded former monastery is the dream hotel for a romantic escape on the Amalfi Coast. Wander hand in hand through the terraced gardens or enjoy a dip in the beautiful infinity pool.
7. Le Grottelle Restaurant, Capri

The cuisine here is simple, homemade fare that includes seafood, pasta, chicken and perhaps rabbit, while the wine is local and very creditable. What makes it so romantic is the setting. Not only is it close to nature, situated near the Arco Naturale, but the terrace tables also enjoy an eye-popping view straight down to the sea, along a precipitous ravine. In addition, the friendly owners do their best to make any meal a memorable event.
8. Villa Eva Resort, Anacapri
Set amid subtropical gardens, this resort (see Villa Eva) consists of a main house and bungalows. Each accommodation is unique and there’s a wonderful grand piano-shaped pool.
9. Gardens of Augustus, Capri

The views from the Gardens of Augustus makes Capri one of the most romantic spots. The gardens are perfect for admiring the Faraglioni rocks, zigzagging Via Krupp and mesmerizing turquoise sea.

10. Villa Maria Restaurant, Ravello
This stunning restaurant (see Villa Maria, Ravello) serves superb food. Sit at a table in its vine-covered garden for views over the scenic coastline and sparkling sea below. Part of the Hotel Villa Maria, it is one of Ravello’s best restaurants, specializing in fresh fish and seafood as well as local wines; try the incredible lemon mousse.
