In This Chapter |
The Understand phase examines what the existing process actually does, so that you can make the right improvements and manage perceptions. In this phase, the renewal team gathers input from interviews and workshops with process participants, by measuring actual performance levels. It also analyzes what works well and not so well today. Based on this information, management and team members determine the required changes and implement some immediate improvements where feasible.
The Understand phase has six steps, as shown in Figure 13.1:
1. | Confirm scope and boundaries. |
2. | Map existing process understanding. |
3. | Measure process performance. |
4. | Determine root causes. |
5. | Identify improvement priorities. |
6. | Implement early wins. |
