Abstract

Nowadays, technology is helping the company enterprise to allow further harvests at low cost and produce targeted performance. However, in order to cut costs and improve efficiency, automation accelerates market ability by leveraging autonomous system systems to substitute human activity through Robot technology. In order to recognize developments in the structure of jobs, efficiency and employment require gaining perspectives into the interrelationship between technologies with Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and the Web. This chapter will first discuss about the concept of IoT and its usages and it will concentrate on how the organization renders itself capable of lowering expenses and evaluating improvements in the job and expertise or abilities of workers using tech-nology. It will also focus on how technology impacts the performance of the employee and help to pursue their creative goal into new work/life balance technology environment.

Keywords: IoT, employee performance, productivity, work environment, employment

11.1 Introduction

IoT is a way to empower the interlinking and fuse of the corporal world what’s more, the web. It addresses the example of future frameworks of organizations, and leads the third surge of the IT business agitate [1]. The arrangement and execution of new sorts of frameworks have been the central asked about subjects subsequently the start of this era. For this case, the National Science Foundation (NSF) of the USA had started two research ventures concerning the Internet: one is Global Environment for System Innovations (GENI) and the other is Future Internet Design (FIND). Being a frameworks organization test condition, the drive of GENI is to progress the designing and organizations without Web limits, to boost investigators to recommend progressive thoughts and strategies for the upcoming Internet [2]. FIND is a whole deal venture under the Networking Innovation and Systems (NETS) investigation program of NSF. FIND booster fabricates a spic and traverse sort out start because of the blueprint of drafts keeping the true objective to fulfill the rations for the approaching 15-year time period. The Internet of Things primary thought was proposed by MIT Auto-ID Labs toward the finish of which started from the necessity of coordination. ITU Internet demonstrated that we are heading towards one in which arranged and organized gadgets are inescapable. Far along from wearies to toothbrushes will be in communication run, proclaiming the beginning of another time, one in which the present Web (of information and individuals) offers route to tomorrow’s Web of Things. The “idea of Things” in IoT has been summed up to conventional protests at show, and the interconnection innovation is likewise stretched out to all organizing innovations, including RFID (Radio Frequency Identification).

IoT systems allow users to get profounder computerization, examination and incorporation into a program. They are increasing the coverage and precision of these zones. Internet of things makes use of current and emerging technologies like sensing, networking and robotics.

IoT is taking advantage of recent technological developments, declining hardware prices and new approaches to engineering. The new and advanced components bring essential improvements in most of the product distribution covering all aspects from political to economic.

There are certain advantages of IoT in business as well as at a personal level:

Technology optimization: Costumer experience is enhanced by the same technology and data with certain enhancement with better use of equipment. Technology cracks a critical ecosphere of purposeful and ground information.

Enhanced client engagement: IoT transforms into a richer and more effective public engagement.

Improvement in gathering of data: Conventional gathering of data is suffering from constraints and limitations.

Reduced Waste: IoT clearly indicates areas for development. Existing research provide us with shallow understanding nonetheless Internet of Things delivers factual evidence, which makes it more efficient in administration of power.

11.1.1 Scientific Issues in IoT

Hurdle 1. Data interchange between heterogeneous large-scale network components.

The fundamental new features associated with the broad use of IoT are access to enormous heterogeneous frameworks and immense data exchange between them. From one perspective, IoT comprehends the interconnection and framework converging by using Internet, media transmission frameworks and other framework stages, and gives information sharing and helpful organization [3]. In any close-knit locale, however, IoT has a clear critical complex self-control. With an ultimate objective to execute a particular arrange errand, distinctive framework segments in each area district self-deal with capably, comprehend the interconnection and interoperability, as needs be to upgrade the framework advantage proficiency by using the information in the nearby self-control territory. In this respect, IoT will face up to a crucial issue: how do we agree on a reasonable compromise between a wide variety of extraordinary components of IoT and complexity, and the need for extraordinarily qualified data sharing. The main goal is therefore to figure out the incredibly successful interconnection between wide-scale, heterogeneous components.

Hurdle 2. Executive incorporation and modification of information unclear.

The IoT seriously supports the real world with numerous intelligent instruments and a substantial degree of weakness simply defines the observed data. The vulnerability needs certain portrayal after some in arrange handling methods, for example, rearrangement, purification and combination, and the outcome will be further provided to administrations. The mixture of information between organization components will exchange data between components in compliance with the criteria of anytime and anywhere with a particular goal to consider very effective knowledge sharing, leading to an additional core question of research: how to analyze, revamp and use the identified data and address connectivity problems.

Hurdle 3. Adaptation of operation to the complex machine climate.

In IoT dynamics, we need to treat intuitive material objects’ vulnerabilities, unpredictable interplay of state and runtime constraints that satisfy the shifting demands. We should also consider new planning to develop speculation and support advances, to give the IoT programming framework a clear and dynamic understanding of IoT administrations’ environmental versatility [4].

In addition, we need to assemble developing devices, motivate the responsive IoT software to evolve itself, understand the population between three times the demands of our clients, data area and physical space, and allow IoT programming to flexibly adapt to the complex world to provide expert management expertise. They will also tackle modern technology that illustrates IoT environment-friendly speculations, instruments and techniques. The measure of self-adjustment is thus elevated as the third major scientific question, namely, the modification of benefits in the complex system situation (Figure 11.1).

11.1.2 IoT in Organizations

Adoption and successful usage of IT in the performance of the enterprise will tend to improve the efficiency of the company. In order to improve efficiency in the organization, the presence of technology itself is not just accountable for the Age of IT. In an organization, workers need to change their abilities to more analytical and computational abilities. In order to grow the company concept, Artificial Intelligence, Machine & Internet help the organization to create the programs and set the skills. In a modern and diverse environment, technology has become the pillar of industry. Artificial intelligence, IoT and Robotics are making workers perform easier and quicker, while requiring improvements in their abilities or methods of performing their job in an enterprise [9]. Technology often helps to generate interest and describe the way to function and interact inside the enterprise. Figure 11.2 displays the advantages that IOT provides to SCM.

The ground shaking latest technologies cannot be unveiled immediately. Technology implementation involved some more technical growth, and it took decades to see the effect of technology on function and organization. The organization has to consider the usage of financial, physical and other capitals to grow a company.

Advances in technology are moving jobs towards automation and make it easier for an individual or worker to automate their expertise and achieve certain things that they considered difficult and impractical. Technology advances may make it easier to do something on a wide scale instead of performing them on a limited scale. To put forth fresh and different ideas in a way that evolves for the future. The collision of innovation and technology towards industrial revolution, business organization knows how they can transform their business through adopting the technology. Figure 11.3 shows use of IOT in various fields.

11.1.3 Technology and Business

Technology has a positive effect on market organization because it has made it more convenient. This plays a significant part in recognizing the desires of the client, changing the market method by predicting dynamic resources, maximizing the usage of records for function, adapting to shifts in the climate. It gives ample benefit that is not linked to the replacement of labor. Thus elicitation of the output from the technology demands alteration in the entire process instead of changes in single process. It is required that business organization must focus on competitor strategy to ensure no troublemaking goes into existing business model.

Technology has emerged with enormous growth in business organization. It helps business organization to reform the existing business process and work. Technology has figured out the new business process and way to do the business in more effective manner. It has given an effortless way to perform work more efficiently, faster and more conveniently. According to Ford, Automation will reduce cost, can perform work faster than human, but human needs to learn about the skills too to learn about the automation [10].

11.1.4 Rewards of Technology in Business

  • It is helping the business organization to be more competitive into market
  • It helps to increasing the productivity.
  • It collaborates with people.
  • It helps to store the data and information accessible anytime by anyone in the organization.
  • It enables new learning and skill set for the growth and sustainability.
  • It saves time, money and cost.
  • It helps business to identify the problem and take the corrective action on time.
  • It required privacy concern as data or information can be manipulated by hacker. Therefore, organization needs to be relying on expert.
  • It completes the task faster and on time.
  • It helps to create the potential of the employee.

A few of the successes in IOT have been shown in Figure 11.4.

11.1.5 Shortcomings of Technology in Business

  • It replaces the personal or face-to-face interaction.
  • The lack of information about how to use technology can ruin the work.
  • The training, software and maintenance become quite expensive for the organization.
  • It enables the unemployment and differentiates wage payment.
  • It develops a sense of insecurity about losing the job.

11.1.6 Effect of IoT on Work and Organization

Technology has modified the operating environment and state of the enterprise. It has continually modified the working climate and is creating a modern way of doing a function or a career. The job cycle has been enhanced by streamlining the waste method and rising.

Speed and Efficiency

Technology also helped to improve the efficiency of workers in all forms of companies, i.e. production and networking. The pace of employment, output and speed outbreak has risen with the company taking place. Today, thanks to technology, work taken an hour ago can be done in only a few minutes. Timely contact and knowledge is essential to carry out the work.

Working Together Made Easier

Technology also made it easy for workers to communicate via electronic networking platforms such as video conferencing. Workers can communicate with other workers at various sites, and the Google Drive app can be utilized for employees to connect their job on the other network. As a consequence, organizations are utilizing work place monitoring techniques to evaluate the output of workers in certain defined fields. In the marketing organization, Technology like AI messaging tools is used to follow up the whole conversation that happened between the employee and customer.

Technology is Changing Office Culture

To create a strong organization culture to tempt in importunity technology has enabled the stereotype change in work place by introducing open office space with video game and beer on tap. Besides opening office space, organization is also offering freelancer and telecommuter jobs by giving them an opportunity to work from home.

No More Need to Live Where You Work

Employees who are searching for a job in every business that choose to operate remotely will easily use the internet as freelancers. It’s a tool that makes it easy to connect and function together as a team when you’re operating remotely. This allows both the career applicant to work remotely and the recruit boss to get creative from everywhere.

Technology has also led to societal change and to the progress of legal, cultural and organizational growth. Technology has three main infrastructures: the Agricultural Age, the Manufacturing Era and the Digital Period. In the agricultural period, citizens relied on natural resources. In the industrial age, citizens concentrated on the utilization of agricultural capital by the purchase of raw material from other business organization, producing maximum output with minimum utilization of the physical utilization at low cost. The aim of the company was to improve productivity by generating an extra device. In the modern age, people depend on digital content and skills to create the product and service and to describe the business cycle. This age is focused on the architecture of information and communication technology. This age allows a corporate enterprise to operate quickly by cooperation, and coordinating the task. This era is also called the development of computer and IT & communication Era [11].

To support the business and organizational activities, organization linking technology and work process (such as enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management, supply chain management, material requirement planning, human resource management, and enterprise-form automation systems) together.

11.2 Technology and Productivity

Technology has been very important to the company in today’s market setting. Technology may help to maximize profitability, performance, enhance coordination and communicate with the workforce. However, it is important to choose the right technology, so let us understand how a company can choose the right technology for its business;

Schematic illustration of the technology change benefits to work.

Figure 11.7 Technology change benefits to work.

  1. Identify the need of the company.
  2. Enabling technology required proper training and education.
  3. Communication improvement through communication
  4. Improving efficiency through technology.

Productivity tends to raise the quality of life of workers. It doesn’t matter how long you’re employed and how much money you’re utilizing in your company. Technology also allows it possible to improve efficiency and to establish new manufacturing techniques. Productivity is calculated by GDP, by product or output [12].

However, without increasing the output the technology progress can be increased. For example, if Wikipedia and free GPS mapping app are replaced by paper encyclopedia and stand along GPS, the people will be more advantageous even if there is any change in output.

According to the U.S. policy departments that the U.S. is generating IT as well as the IT manufacturing industry, but that efficiency has declined in the past 10 years. Figures have shown that the weak focus on IT output and retail utilization continues to lower efficiency. In order to maximize efficiency, the company will concentrate on technological growth and progression.

Connect Remote Workforce:

Thanks to the need for temporary or home-based job options, the company enterprise is creating virtual offices to operate collaboratively, growing the expense of setting up and managing broad workspaces. It is important for brilliant workers to have access to all details, data and to be able to receive job status from their workers without meeting them. E.g., make a WhatsApp community of the employee helping to employers to communication, delegating task and ask the status of work.

Enable the Communal Tools:

There are several tools that are connecting the employee so that collectively they can work for the organization. For instance, Google’s cloud-based application is used in most of organizations to share the data and integrate the employees.

Get Organized:

ERP is a system where information about leaves, salary, work, purchasing and so on are stored in a software by any employee of any department and this could be accessed by any employer without physically meeting with the employee.

Be Reachable:

Technology makes it easier for a company to link its workers by offering up-to-date cell apps and service services as though any missed call might result in a loss of revenue. Therefore, to ensure the continuity of the Integrity Business, technologies such as voice mail, soft phones and job caller ID are used.

Know Productivity Challenge:

Companies are concentrating more to make an evaluation of their productivity challenges so that they can evolve changes in technology tools causing the slowdown of the productivity of an employee. Figure 11.8 shows how IOT helps in increasing productivity.

Explore Virtualization:

Virtualization helps the organization to increase business sacking. It extends the lifespan of older computer desktops. It also helps to reduce the cost of the business.

Trust the Experts:

Organization must distribute the work among the employees and must not be rigid to having an expertise for those tasks which can’t be automated.

This is recommended that the study of the level of work and the organisation’s efficiency should not be focused on cloud infrastructure, because it relies on the evaluation of the technical climate. This will require a transition in the traditional company environment and the staff. The company has to be more effective when discovering how to utilize technologies instead of relying on the development and creation of the new innovations.

11.3 Technology and Future of Human Work

Today, companies want to utilize time clock technologies to assess the performance of workers. In the past, workers worked on the basis of what they were making, but in the technological age, employment was split into different roles. It is mentioned that, from a learning viewpoint, technology allows the workforce to be more agile and growth-oriented. It is discussed about the global labor market, gig economy and how technology is defining more possibilities in career and job opportunities making employees free from repetitive and monotonous task [13]. Technology is neither good nor bad, no matter how we use it. There are several reasons why organizations are investing on work technology:

  • Inhuman task can be possibly performed by technology. For example, in manufacturing companies where work has to be performed in an extremely hot place, it is impossible for the employee to perform task. Therefore, technology helps employee to perform that difficult or impossible task.
  • Technology helps to reduce the cost of employing the staff which covers almost 50% of operating cost. It demands lowering the price and investing more on new technology that would create the new task for the employee or increase the job opportunity.
  • It enables to increase the potential of the employee, helps them to communicate with others, inbuilt the new skills and new process to perform the task.

In fact, Technology impacts on work as it depends on how much organization is spending to adopt the new technology to increase the potential of an employee. There are two visions considered by an organization:

The fanciful future: imagine if there is no way of recruitment, layoff, retirement, no organization hierarchy and employee not having any sense of stability and employment but employees are collaborating and are productive in technological era as they acquired the required skills.

The stipendiary future: imagine that employees are categorized as skilled and unskilled employees and skilled employees are enjoying the job as they are in demand because they have knowledge about the new technology. This world will be referred to as never ending competition era.

Out of technology, both the fanciful future and the stipendial future have been developed. In a fanciful age, companies are utilizing technology to offer instruction and build employees’ ability on how to utilize technology. Yet we do see a stipendial outlook with a pay deficit and work separation and unemployment. Companies are spending further in emerging technologies to make their employees potential.

Technology is also creating the future where employees are not worried about to getting jobs for their survival as the country is also replacing the employee work. To change the world of work technology is more fanciful.

11.4 Technology and Employment

It has described developments in the technology in workers’ abilities, jobs and earnings. Several experiments have been undertaken which have indicated that there would not be an improvement in jobs if modern technology is implemented in the organization. Although some have suggested that the reforms would have an effect on jobs. However, the longevity of the work over a long period of time depends on the skills needed [14]. In fact, productivity and technology changes lead to growth in the earning. There are several factors are responsible to affects the level of employment due to change in the technology:

  1. The time at what organisation products and services are demanding into market.
  2. The survival of new product in domestic and international market.
  3. Redefining the process to produce maximum output with low labor requirement.
  4. Effect of technology change on wages.

According to the Cambridge Research, Inc., 1986, technology tends to develop the skills needed by the employee that will be ideal for work. Normally, each employee will have two forms of qualifications; technical skills and job skills. Basic abilities are learned by the school program rather than by the organisation. This includes knowledge of the area of research, logic, problem solving, and communication. Job-related skills are one which is acquired by the organisation needed to perform task. Basic skills help to workers to understand what they need to perform in their present and future employment. However, some study stated that job related skills can be acquired through on the job training.

Technology also has an effect on workers’ earnings. According to the U.S. study, the shift of technologies has slowly eroded the amount of earnings and controlled the restructuring of the distribution of earnings. This reflects on shifts in the rates of incomes and describes the connection between income inequality and technical transition.

It is found that in the service sectors income distribution is based on the occupational structure. Thus there could be no arising changes in the distribution of income and no change in earning level as the spending structure has been changed in household people.

It has been suggested that modern technologies will render workers redundant. It could be fictional, however. In the 19th century, British cloth employees were worried that they might be displaced when modern technologies became part of the company. Thanks to the assumption of emerging technology for jobs, employees demolished the machines and flamed out John Kay’s home, created the “Flying Shuttle.”

It is believed that the introduction of modern technologies will eliminate jobs, but would also generate considerable wealth. However, it is also reported that the weekly working hours will be shortened by 15 h and the reporting condition will also improve. The latest technologies would also build a competitive sector, raise competition, increase profits and generate new job prospects, and result in a new service opportunity.

It is almost likely that any profession will be annihilated. It is clear that automation decreases the role of the employee, but it allows the employee flexibility to worry about developing their abilities and getting them more informed in order to become more attractive. It is going to happen in the future of technical transition relies largely on corporate planning and plan as a technology will also create some new job opportunity and these would be depend more on thinking, specialized and analytical skills.

According to the Bureau of Labour statistics, employment opportunity will be increased by 30% by 2020 in the computer field. In the human race we will enter into fourth industrial revolution i.e. 4.0 Industry is defining the collaborating the physical, digital and biological components.

11.5 Conclusion

Methods, jobs and development departments are used to handle the function of workers. A company utilizes technology not just to do business and fulfill the functions of working with remote workers but by embracing a modern definition of freelancer and contract worker. If the company employs robotics, the need for a new professional worker will be present, as the system will allow.

Technology has divided the work in the task and all tasks can’t be performed by the technology alone. Therefore, there is an employment for those employees who possess different skills set and acquired the training to perform the specific task. Technology has brought new fanciful future to the business organization where they can set their vision to complete into the competitive environment. Besides reducing the job opportunity or task of the employees it also helps in upgrading their skills. The demand and supply of the products and services will be increased by using automated technology. It has good or bad impact on business organization. The impact of new technology on business is completely dependent on how to use it and the investment on the technology.
