Part 5
Keeping Track of What You’ve Got
Once you’ve got some money, what do you do with it? Do you stash it in a box on the dresser or in a savings account, never to see it again? Of course not. You’ll need at least some of the money you have to keep up with your expenses and to buy some of the things you want. To be able to do that, you need to know how to keep track of your money.

It often doesn’t make sense to carry around a lot of cash to pay for purchases. That being the case, you might want to think about opening a checking account, or getting a debit card, or both.

Just as with savings accounts, there are different kinds of checking accounts, and some will make more sense for you and your money than others. You learn all about how to choose a checking account in this part, as well as the advantages and potential pitfalls of debit cards and automated teller machines.
