ITALY
THIS IS RED FIZZ. Largely underrated, Lambrusco is a fresh, light-bodied, red sparkling wine originating from northern Italy, just like Prosecco (except from a different region – namely Emilia-Romagna and Lombardy). Ranging from pale purple to deep red in color, this fruity and acidic fizz holds sweet berry flavors. Produced semi-sparkling, it is most often made dry or off-dry. In true Italian style this wine benefits from being consumed alongside cheeses and cured meat!
GRAPES
Predominantly Lambrusco Grasparossa, Lambrusco Maestri, Lambrusco Marani, Lambrusco Montericco, Lambrusco Salamino, and Lambrusco Sorbara.
TASTE
Red and black cherry, blackberry, strawberry, boysenberry, mulberry, and rhubarb. Sharp acidity and a great food match.
STYLES
• LIGHTER: A lighter style featuring Sorbara and Rosato grapes will appeal to a rosé drinker
• HEAVIER: A heavier style featuring Grasparossa and Salamino grapes, more appealing to the red wine drinker.
ASTI, PIEDMONT, ITALY
MOSCATO D’ASTI is a sweet, low-alcohol sparkling wine made from the famous Moscato grape. Like all wines produced from this variety, they are typically fresh, extremely floral, and tropical in their flavor profile. Moscato wines rarely hit the heights of the fine wine sector, which makes them perfect for the sweet, lightly sparkling, inexpensive style produced in Piedmont, north-west Italy. “d’Asti” refers to the local township of Asti in the region, so Moscato d’Asti directly translates to “Muscat from Asti.”
GRAPES
Moscato Bianco 100%
TASTE
Lightly effervescent with sweet peach, melon, apricot and some pineapple flavors.
STYLES
N/A: Moscato d’Asti is only produced in one sweet style.
