FINAL THOUGHTS

Implementing the Career Launch Method

Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.

—DALE CARNEGIE

The eight steps of the Career Launch Method are meant to be completed more than once. You should be conducting your outreach in manageable stages (reaching out to five professionals every two weeks, for example) and repeating the process with new professionals either when you are not getting responses after following up or when you successfully complete career conversations.

At some point, you will work through your list of twenty-five strategic contacts. If your chosen top ten organizations are small or medium-size, it may be difficult to find more than five professionals from those organizations in your areas of interest. If this is the case, make a new list of ten additional organizations where you would want to work, and repeat all the remaining steps of the Career Launch Method. If some of your initial ten organizations are large corporations or institutions, you likely will be able to contact more than five employees and thus you can repeat the remaining steps with different employees from the same organizations.

I’d like to remind you of a few more resources that can be useful in your career launch journey. Visit go.careerlaunch.academy, or go to the back of the book to gain access to the Career Launch Readiness Assessment, a tool that will give you customized recommendations on your strengths, areas for improvement, and actions to take related to your career readiness. I’ve also included a library of motivational quote backgrounds for your phone or computer, visit www.launchyourcareerbook.com/quotes. And, as mentioned earlier, my team and I have created the Launch Your Career Workbook with journal prompts, outreach templates, tables to track your outreach and continued follow-up after career conversations, and summaries of key concepts from this book. You can visit www.launchyourcareerbook.com to learn more.

Finally, thank you for investing your time to learn about the Career Launch Method. I am rooting for you, and I hope to learn about your wins. Maybe there will be a second edition to this book, and your story will be shared with future students. I invite you to follow Career Launch on LinkedIn at www.linkedin.com/company/career-launch-programs, join the Launch Your Career LinkedIn group at www.linkedin.com/groups/13946744, and follow me at www.linkedin.com/in/seanokeefe.

If the Career Launch strategies help you succeed, I hope you will pay it forward. You can inspire others to join the Career Launch movement by sharing your success and giving Career Launch a shout-out on social media. Or, you can purchase a copy of Launch Your Career for a sibling, friend, cousin, classmate, or someone else important in your life. Or perhaps you’ll suggest that your college or an alumni donor buys a copy for every student (we add your school’s logo to it and customize a letter on page 1). Lets create a cycle of reciprocity by paying it forward to others.
