Chapter 21
Reporting on Success
In This Chapter
• Cultivating a funder beyond the thank you letter
• Communicating with the funder about problems with a program
• Preparing financial reports
• Modifying a grant contract
• Reporting on successful and unsuccessful programs
In Chapter 10, I wrote about the importance of cultivating funders before asking for money. But cultivation doesn’t end when you receive a check. In many ways, it’s just begun.
Funders’ reporting requirements on how their money was spent vary, but all at least ask for a report a year from when they awarded the grant. You could wait 12 months before communicating with the funder, but in doing so, you would be passing up golden opportunities to make the funder a long-term friend of your charity. In this chapter, I show you how you can integrate the funder’s reporting requirements with other communications to cement a relationship.
