In order to start Forge, there is a script named forge.bat
(or the equivalent forge.sh
for Unix). Run the following script:
forge.bat
This will launch the Forge console:
The console accepts a large set of commands, such as commands to navigate and manipulate the filesystems, to create new projects, to operate on the Forge environment and UI generation, and scaffolding commands.
In order to learn all the available commands, you can enter list-commands
from the shell, as shown in the following screenshot, which enlists all the basic commands you can use in Forge 1.2.0 Final:
If you want to learn more about the single commands, you can use help
followed by the command name:
Besides the standard commands, it is possible to enrich the syntax of the Forge command line with plugins, which add superior capabilities to your project creation. On this link,
http://forge.jboss.org/plugins.html, you can find a list of available plugins at the time of writing. For example, we are going to use the hibernate-tools
plugin in order to reverse engineer the database schema into Java entities. We will also use the JBoss AS 7 plugin, which can provide us with seven management capabilities from within the Forge shell.
In the following section, we will demonstrate how to use some of the available commands in order to create a Java EE 6 application.
