PREFACE

This book is aimed at managers who need to build resilience in both themselves and their team and improve their own and others’ well-being. It will help you learn the best ways to develop your own resilience and that of others.

I have written this book at a time of a global pandemic and increasing uncertainty at work. As COVID-19 continues to affect people’s health and well-being, managers need not only to build the resilience of their team, but also to remain strong and bounce back when adversity impacts them.

Many people today struggle with job and/or financial insecurity. Change and uncertainty are now the norm. With more people encouraged to work from home, there is increased risk of isolation and it can be hard for managers to manage their own emotions as well as those of their team.

This book provides practical tips and advice. It will help you recognise the impact ambiguity can have on well-being and identify the signs of declining mental, physical, emotional and social well-being. It is also a useful guide to equip managers with the skills and confidence to effectively build their own and others’ resilience and support their team’s well-being.

The good news is that in reading this book, you have taken a positive step towards building your own and your team’s resilience. I hope the book enables you to identify concrete actions you can take to build well-being. The challenge is to turn these actions into resolutions that stick. When you embed your intended actions in repeatable behaviours that become habits, you’ll increase your own and your team’s ability to bounce back.
