Log format

Traditional logging solutions specify particular log layouts that format the log messages in the resulting log file. The application needs to manage the creation, rolling, and formatting of log files that are not relevant for the business logic.

Quite a few enterprise applications ship with third-party logging dependencies that implement this functionality, but provide no business value.

Choosing particular plain text log formats is another decision that needs to be made by the application developers. There is a trade-off between a log entry format that is readable by both humans and machines. The result is usually the worst compromise for both parties; string log formats that are both hardly readable and have a tremendous impact on the system's performance.

It would be more reasonable to choose binary formats that store information with the highest density. Humans then could use tooling to make the messages visible.
