Amounts of data

Extensive logging introduces a huge amount of data that is contained in log files. In particular, logs that are used for debugging and tracing purposes result in big files that are cumbersome and expensive to parse.

Parsing log formats in general introduces an avoidable overhead. Information that is potentially technically-relevant is serialized in a specific format first, just to be parsed again later when inspecting the logs.

Later in this sub-section, we will see what other solutions there are.
