Similarly to the S3 One-Zone IA, the S3 RRS is designed for data that does not require the availability and durability that is delivered by S3 standard. RRS only replicates data within two availability zones, thus still making it 99.99% available and 99.99% durable, and giving it the ability to withstand the destruction of an availability zone. This still makes RRS about 400 times as reliable as a typical enterprise-grade disk. However, because it only has two replicas, it has less ability to recover from errors and thus less durability. But still, with RRS high performance, low latency, and all the other characteristics of S3 are available, while being delivered at a lower price than S3 Standard. RRS is, like One-Zone IA, intended for data that is easily reproducible from other sources.
