Let's perform the following steps:
- To create a topic, navigate to the SNS management console and select the Create topic action:
- In the Create new topic dialog, we can select the Topic name and the Display name that we will be using for this topic. Note that the Display name is only required when sending SMS messages and is limited to 10 characters, whereas the Topic name is the name that will be used as the identifier for this topic and needs to be unique within a region:
- Once a topic is created, we can select it and view the details, including the topic ARN, which can be used by other AWS services to publish messages, the region, the display name, and, most importantly, the subscriptions. The topics are of course created without subscribers, and if we would like to subscribe to the topic, we can click the Create subscription button:
