Like the database metrics, we also need to understand the metrics in our ElastiCache clusters. In the CloudWatch Overview section, we can select the ElastiCache service where we can get a great overview of the commonly monitored metrics in ElastiCache clusters. We can see the CPU utilization for our hosts, the memory consumption, and network statistics:

But, due to the fact that every application uses cache in a slightly different manner, the ability to create custom dashboards is crucial for ElastiCache clusters. Providing a dashboard with the right metrics that will give us the ability to quickly assess the health of the ElastiCache cluster is crucial. An example dashboard for ElastiCache would look something like the following screenshot:
