Management tools

The management services offer management of AWS cloud resources. Some also offer management of on premises resources. Examples include the following service offerings:

  • Amazon CloudWatch: A fully managed monitoring service that stores metrics and logs from your environment and helps with diagnosing issues, understanding application load, and can deliver alerts to other services such as Amazon Auto Scaling, Lambda, and so on.

  • Amazon CloudTrail: Allows for the logging and monitoring of API calls being issued to your AWS environment. It can record any changes in your infrastructure and deliver the data required for use in security and compliance processes.
  • AWS Config: A feature that allows you to record the state and evaluate the configurations of your AWS resources.
  • AWS CloudFormation: A template-based mechanism that allows you to create specification documents for your AWS instances and services and deploy them in an automated and repeatable manner. CloudFormation allows you to treat your infrastructure as code so that you can store, maintain, and deliver your infrastructure seamlessly from within your application life cycle environment.
  • AWS OpsWorks: A configuration management service that allows you to easily deploy Chef or Puppet configuration management system instances and take control of and automate your infrastructure in the cloud and on-premises.
