Finally, Watson Analytics for Social Media can collect from a number of media sources and you have the ability to determine which of the supported types you want to include and use in your project.
The currently supported media types are:
Forums |
Retrieves from message boards and forums |
Reviews |
Retrieves comments and reviews from review sites |
Facebook pages |
Retrieves from many Facebook pages of top industries. Data is available from January 27, 2016 onward |
Reddit pages |
Retrieves from many Reddit pages |
Videos |
Retrieves video descriptions and comments posted to video sites |
Blogs |
Retrieves blog posts and their comments |
News |
Retrieves postings from major news websites and news wires |
Clicking on Sources allows you the ability to turn any supported media type on or off, as shown in the following screenshot:
Once you are happy with your project setup and are ready to retrieve social media content (based upon the previously selected settings) and view visualizations about your topics and themes, you can click on the Create dataset icon, as shown in the following screenshot:
You'll need to keep a few things in mind; the more sources you choose to include, and the broader the topic of focus:
- The longer it will take to retrieve the content
- The more space it will consume in your Watson Analytics environment
Processing time may not be a huge deterrent; however, the space required to process and store the results may be. Depending upon your subscription or version of Watson Analytics for Social Media, you may exceed your limits or potentially incur additional fees. To address these concerns, you can always reset your project selections to reduce the number of sources, or attempt to fine-tune or narrow your topic of interest by adding additional topics and/or keywords.
