How to do it...

There are two ways of creating a static DHCP mapping.

  1. Navigate to Services | DHCP and click on the LAN tab, if it isn’t selected already.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page. Beneath the Save button, there should be a section labeled DHCP Static Mappings for this Interface. Click on the Add button beneath this section:

  1. You are now in the Edit Static Mapping page. Enter a MAC address in the MAC Address edit box:

  1. In the IP Address edit box, enter an IP address that is outside of the range of dynamically assigned IP addresses for this interface.
  2. In the Hostname edit box, enter the host’s name.
  3. In the Description edit box, enter a brief (non-parsed) description.
  4. Click on the Save button.
  5. Click on the Apply Changes button. Scroll to the bottom of the DHCP Server page for the LAN interface and confirm that your new static mapping exists.

Another way to create a static DHCP mapping is to start at the DHCP Leases page.

  1. Navigate to Status | DHCP Leases.
  2. Click on the light-colored "plus" icon under the Actions column in one of the table entries.
  1. You should now be in the Edit Static Mapping page. The MAC address field will be prefilled with the MAC address of the network interface on the system you are using.
  2. In the IP Address edit box, enter an IP address that is outside of the range of dynamically assigned IP addresses for this interface.
  3. The Hostname edit box may be prefilled. If not, enter the host’s name.
  4. In the Description edit box, enter a brief (non-parsed) description.
  5. Click on the Save button.
  6. Click on the Apply Changes button. Scroll to the bottom of the DHCP Server page for the LAN interface and confirm that your new static mapping exists.
