Operational SSRS reports

The need for reporting in predefined formats and taking document printouts and transactional details is never expected to go out of demand.

Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations utilizes SSRS to deliver many out-of-the-box operational and business document reports.

The following screenshot shows an example SSRS report, On-hand inventory, in Finance and Operations:

As shown on the left-hand side of the preceding screenshot, SSRS reports have parameterization, filters, and the ability to run in the background using batch processing. On the right-hand side, you can see various output formats that this report can be exported to, including PDF, Excel, Word, XML, and many others.

Similar to inquiry pages, there are hundreds of purpose-built operational SSRS reports in each and every module of Finance and Operations. The SSRS reporting framework in Finance and Operations allows users to develop complex calculation logic using the Document Processing (DP) classes. To summarize, the following are the key advantages and limitations of SSRS reports in Finance and Operations:

  • The advantages are as follows:
    • Supports multiple export formats such as PDF, Excel, XML, and TIFF
    • Schedules execution via batch processing and email delivery
    • It can support parameters, filters, and complex calculations
    • Print-friendly precision design
  • The limitations are as follows:
    • No personalization support
