About the authors

Nicole A. Cooke is an instruction librarian and tenured assistant professor at Montclair State University’s (NJ) Sprague Library. She holds the MLIS degree from Rutgers University, an M.Ed. in Adult Education from Pennsylvania State University, and is currently an American Library Association Spectrum Doctoral Fellow and doctoral candidate at Rutgers University. Her research and writing interests include LIS distance education and instruction, human information behavior in online settings, the retention and mentoring of minority librarians and LIS doctoral students, and leadership, organizational development and communication in libraries.

She is a frequent reviewer for Library Journal, a former column editor for Public Services Quarterly, and has published profiles in the African American National Biography project, articles in College and Research Libraries News and The Journal of Library & Information Services in Distance Learning, the New Review of Academic Librarianship, and several book chapters related to information literacy instruction and online education.

Named a ‘Mover & Shaker’ in 2007 by Library Journal, Nicole is professionally active, and has held leadership positions in the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), the Association of Library and Information Science Educators (ALISE), and several New Jersey library organizations. Upon completion of her doctoral degree, Nicole’s career plans include more writing, teaching, and research that will enhance the library profession, and benefit the next generations of library practitioners.

Jeffrey J. Teichmann is an Access Services Supervisor at Rutgers University (NJ), Alexander Library. He holds a MLIS degree from Rutgers University. His research interests include staff training and mentoring, and the use patterns of academic libraries. A recent book chapter looked specifically at the outreach programs of academic libraries to first-year student populations.

He is actively involved in training programs in the Rutgers University Libraries and various library systems throughout New Jersey. Jeff draws on 20 + years of experience training staff and library users alike when planning and implementing training programs.
