Table 10-2 summarizes what has been discussed in this chapter and shows how each Process Group relates to each PMLC model.
Schedule compression, which is listed under the Planning Process Group, is a strategy that is used to move the project completion date to an earlier date. That is done using a number of different strategies on the critical path, such as adding more skilled resources to a task to reduce its duration, or changing the dependency relationship so that two successive tasks can be overlapped and the total duration of the two tasks can be reduced by the amount of the overlap.
Additionally, this chapter has provided enough of an overview of CCPM to enable you to use it in your projects. Because the overview is brief and applied to a simple project, readers who are more serious about its application will need to dig deeper into it. Again, I heartily endorse Leach's book Critical Chain Project Management, Second Edition (Artech House, 2005).
