- Download MetaMask from https://metamask.io. It currently supports the Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Brave browsers.
- Create an account in MetaMask or import an existing account using the private key or seed phrase. If you are new to MetaMask, refer to the related recipe from the first chapter.
- If you do not have enough Ether in your MetaMask account, buy some from a cryptocurrency exchange. For testing purposes, it is recommended to use a private or test Ethereum network.
Do not send Ether directly from an exchange to an ICO. Most exchanges do not support buying tokens through a crowdsale and you won't be able to recover the tokens. It is recommended to use your own wallet.
- Use the SEND button to transfer Ether to the crowdsale contract. Enter the crowdsale address in the recipient column and Ether to invest in the amount column. Click NEXT to sign the transaction.
- The users will be asked to enter values for the gas limit and gas price, along with options to accept and reject the transaction. Make sure to provide a high enough enough gas limit so that the transaction does not run out of gas during execution. Click SUBMIT to send the transaction:
- Once the transaction is mined and execution was successful, the sender's account will be credited with the ICO tokens. Some ICOs may not distribute tokens immediately, and you won't be able to transfer them immediately
- MetaMask also provides an option to watch tokens from its interface. Select the TOKENS tab and add tokens to view their status:
