In this chapter, we learned the use cases of Hadoop across different industry sectors and then detailed a few use cases within the financial sector. I explained why the financial sector would gain most by using Hadoop, how big data has evolved in this industry, what the typical challenges are, and the implementation life cycle. I also highlighted the skills to learn big data techniques depending on interest and requirements. I encourage you to learn Hadoop using vendor-provided manuals and Apache documentation, as subsequent chapters will be a little hands-on.

In the next chapter, I will pick up a small-scale risk simulation project using Hadoop in the cloud.
