First published in Esquire Magazine’s 1949 edition of “Handbook for Hosts,” this delicious drink is named after the modern method of delivery by air—yet no one is quite sure where this association came from. A truly accessible cocktail, the rum and lime are softened by the citrusy orange and the sweetness of the honey.

the CLASSIC RECIPE

Skip the rum for a delicious, low-alcohol alternative.

1. Add 12/3 fl oz (50ml) rum, 1/2 fl oz (15ml) lime juice, 1/2 fl oz (15ml) orange juice, and 1/3 fl oz (10ml) honey to a shaker.

2. Fill with ice and shake for 10 seconds.

3. Strain into a highball glass with ice.

4. Top with Champagne.
