6.8. SUMMARY

Behavior depends on habits and self-instructions (behavioral intentions). The former are shaped by patterns of rewards. The latter depend on social, affective, and cognitive factors. The social factors reflect norms, roles, self-definitions, and interpersonal agreements. Facilitating conditions, such as self-efficacy, are also most important in understanding whether behavior will or will not occur.
