Unfortunately, Oracle hasn't invest a lot into JavaFX lately. There were only a few new JavaFX features in Java 9, and almost none of them in Java 10. And, in Java 11, JavaFX is going to become a separate project, OpenJFX, which means it will not be included in the default Java 11 download.

Luckily, JavaFX is an open source project with an active community, which you can join and learn about at https://wiki.openjdk.java.net/display/OpenJFX/Main.
